Megaherz live at "Z6"
November 16, 2002 - Innsbruck
This
was a very long day. Chris and I depart from the Vienna train station at approximately
11:30 AM. I am amazed at how small the station is, by comparison to the Munich
and Berlin stations. There are no reserved seats, as I am used to, and Chris
manages to find a nearly empty compartment for us. It is thankfully an I.C.E.
train (we do not have to switch trains) to reach Innsbruck, but the train is
slow. Just when it seemed to pick up speed, it is time for it to stop at a connecting
place to either let off or take on passengers. Somewhere near the end of our
journey the train comes to a complete stop, in the middle of nowhere. For 20
minutes we sit not knowing WHAT is going on. The voice over the loud-speaker
asks for our patience. Not an easy thing for us to do! The highlight of the
train ride was when a few soldiers board the train. They are in fine form and
pass the time by singing LOUDLY (and drinking beer). We eventually arrive in
Innsbruck. It is already dark plus it is raining. After a few wrong turns........we
find our Hotel and check in, get something to eat, and find a taxi to take us
to the venue.
The actual location of the gig is a small club called the Z6. The reason for this particular venue is: ja, tatsächlich im Z6, kurzfristig war keine andere Location zu bekommen. Loosely translated, I take it to mean: shit happens! ;-))) The one thing that hits me immediately about this Club is the hardwood floors. Beautiful hardwood floors and I wonder how the floors survive the onslaught of cigarette butts. We are kept waiting a long time before we are let in. The MEGAHERZ soundcheck is delayed due to the late arrival of Alexx and X-tian. Finally we are allowed into the club area, which is not much bigger than the foyer we had just been occupying. I notice a dog has also been allowed inside and is busily tracking some scent across the Club's floor.
The vorband tonight is FLOODLAND. My mind is elsewhere and I half-heartedly try to pay attention to their set. I cannot help but think of the extreme contrasts between Wien and this gig in Innsbruck. But this is how it sometimes goes for MEGAHERZ. There is no evidence of complaining or grumbling about the situation. MEGAHERZ have a job to do and they DO IT!
The
set-list is identical to the listed songs for the show at Planet Music. Tonight
though MEGAHERZ omit "Rock me Amadeus" and "An deinem Grab",
there are no additional songs added on, no breaks between the main set and the
encore, everything is played straight through. Alexx is also doing a lot less
between song chattering. Again tonight, there are strange rambling versions
of "Wer bist du" and "Kopfschuss" which are played. During
"Kopfschuss", Olli reveals his drumming skills by assisting Jürgen
and X-tian totally disappears during this song. "Wer bist du" begins
with Alexx reciting the opening verses without accompaniment. Since the April
2002 Tour in support of Herzwerk II, for "F.F.F." Alexx has incorporated
a line from "Weisses Fleisch" towards the end: dein weisses Fleisch
erregt mich so, ich bin ein trauriger Gigolo -- he utters these lines very slowly,
very deeply.
The
final song of the evening, "Blender", is performed without having
anybody from the audience join them on-stage. Truthfully, there was no extra
room on the stage to permit this.
As the show in Wien was my largest MEGAHERZ show, this Innsbruck gig was my smallest. Extreme contrasts in the venues........but always the same effort and energy from MEGAHERZ. A Class act!
