Megaherz live in the "Muffathalle"
November 11, 2000 - Munich
At this point nobody can know that the Muffathalle is going to reach somewhere around 80% of it's capacity. That means about 1200 - 1300 people of all shapes and sizes were on hand - the goth grufties, punkers, metalheads, and your "normal" John and Mary Doe. I even saw a few women older than myself - I mean we are talking grandmas here! What's ZOMBIE JOE started to warm up the crowd at about 8:45 with some trashy new metal or some such stuff. The Rastaman singer had a very good voice-box with a lot range and feeling. The guitarist reminded me of Marilyn Manson himself, but without all the gyrations. You have to keep in mind that I'm standing at the back of hall and was being kept busy with hellos and howdies. By now I've gotten a cola to drink, my Ursula has arrived, a few old friends from past concerts have come and then this group of 4 walk in to tell me, "Hey man, we just drove 5 hours from Berlin to see the show tonight.!" We're talking dedication here. If you recall, MEGAHERZ was originally scheduled to play in Berlin tonight, but because of so called "organizational difficulties" it was cancelled. Well, if the concert doesn't come to you, then sometimes you just have to take yourself to the concert. Ain't that right, Betsy? So at this point let me send out greetings to Markus aka Scobbydoo and Alexa and Tommi and a 2nd young lady whose name I did not catch. At this point I'm reminded of the Deadheads who went on tour with the Grateful Dead. Around this time, "Matze", the vox of TWELVE AFTER ELF and 2nd vox on Rappunzel, Windkind and Falsche Goetter, also strolls in to enjoy the evening. Thanks for the beer, Matz!
By now it was getting close to show time 9:40. Things are going pretty well at the Merch-Stand. The lights dimmed again and the opening sampler from "Du oder ich" is running. From where I'm at, nothing but smoke and darkness can be seen on stage and then WAMMO, Martin hit the few lights that he had at his disposal, and MEGAHERZ is standing there in full glory and the heads start nodding like dogs in the rear window. Alexx's voice comes out crystal clear. Frank is pounding away and Wenz is setting the pace. On Guitars are our man x-tian and Oli (aka Dr. Pohl, but he doesn't really being called "Dr."). Oli is the not so shy frilly-franzed, half-shaved Rastaman/guitarist from TWELVE AFTER ELF who has been filling in since Gerrit's fall from the stage in Augsburg. As we all know Oli is currently working as session man in Noel's absence. From where I was standing (in the back, remember) everything seemed just fine. But I guess Alexx hoped the crowd would unfold their arms and show the Berliner's, meaning TANZWUT now, that Munich knows how to party and have a good time. Following the second song "Gott Sein", things got quiet so we could all hear the engines of some old prop-job start revving up and we all took off on a "Himmelfahrt". This song is really beautiful and seems to last quite a while longer when it is played live. Alexx's was hitting every note just perfect and x-ti gave a tremendous solo. Other than the music, no show was given and it wasn't necessary either. Maybe, hopefully, there will be either a video or live version released some day. It would be worth it!
By the way, the front four were all in Flight Jump Suits and sweating their asses off. As I was to find out later, Frank was NOT in his shorts, but in a leopard bodysuit!! Why not? it's a free world!!

The rest of the set was: "Ruf mich an", "Falsche Götter" (including a fairly boring erotic show), "Wir Leben Noch" (we all of the people towards the stage participated by clapping and throwing stuffed animals on the stage again), "Beiss Mich" (with the 2 girls now dressed in Vampire like capes), "Jordan", and "Teufel".
There was no time for an encore because the stage had to be cleared and made ready for TANZWUT, who opened fine then turned monotone for over an hour. Luckily their encore was good, it opened with "Goetterfunken" and ended with some song where 5 bagpipes were being played simultaneous.
After the concert, we were fairly busy at the Merch-Stand. Even if people did not buy anything I still gave them a few postcards so that they could remember the name MEGAHERZ. At about 1 a.m. Uwe packed everything up, said he was going home - everybody else had already disappeared - an then I happily bicycled the 25 KM home in the cold dark night.
